"Music is a moral law. It gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, a charm to sadness, and life to everything. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, but nevertheless dazzling, passionate, and eternal form"
... so says Plato.

Schumann - "Träumerei" (Dreaming) | Kinderszenen Op.15, Scenes from Childhood | Lang Lang
Robert Schumann - "Träumerei" (Reverie) - Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood) for piano, Op. 15, 1838. Lang Lang, Piano Encore.
The 13 pieces that constitute Robert Schumann's Kinderszenen for piano (Scenes from Childhood), Op. 15 (1838) showcase their creator's musical imagination at the peak of its poetic clarity. As a result, the Kinderszenen have long been staples of the repertoire as utterly charming yet substantial miniatures, the sort of compact keyboard essays in which Schumann's genius found full expression. Kinderszenen was one of the projects Schumann worked on during the spring of 1838 to get through a difficult period of separation from his fiancée, Clara Wieck, who was on tour as a pianist and whose father objected to the idea of her marriage to the composer. In March of that year, Schumann wrote to Clara, "I have been waiting for your letter and have in the meantime filled several books with pieces.... You once said to me that I often seemed like a child, and I suddenly got inspired and knocked off around 30 quaint little pieces.... I selected several and titled them Kinderszenen. You will enjoy them, though you will need to forget that you are a virtuoso when you play them." The Kinderszenen are a touching tribute to the eternal, universal memories and feelings of childhood from a nostalgic adult perspective; unlike a number of Schumann's collections of piano character pieces (e.g. Album for the Young, Op. 68), the Kinderszenen are not intended to be played by children. Schumann claimed that the picturesque titles attached to the pieces were added as an afterthought in order to provide subtle suggestions to the player, a model Debussy followed decades later in his Preludes. Almost all of the Kinderszenen are miniature ternary (ABA) forms.
The seventh Scene, "Träumerei" (Reverie), is easily the most famous piece in the set; its charming melody and quieting power have recommended it to generations of concert pianists who wish to calm audiences after a long series of rousing encores. The Kinderszenen contain many delicate musical touches

19:19 the best cord I've ever heard
The last bars of the 4th movement are powerful!
Boggles the mind that this survey of piano technique was written during Chopin’s late teens and early twenties by a musician whose only teachers were a violinist and a composer (though one steeped in Bach). More miraculous, as Arrau shows, the etudes are far more about music than technique. Arrau greatly admired Cortot’s Chopin and the Chilean like the Swiss-Frenchman was steeped in German romanticism, but Arrau also relishes the classical grounding of Chopin. If you like this try Arrau’s often disparaged early ‘50s Chopin project, left unfinished due to poor sales. I love it.

Just a small piece of the almost sketchy introduction, or almost small plans of main parts of Symphony No. 10, but what a greatness and genius of this music, and for the entire symphonic work of Gustav Mahler. If the symphony had been completely finished, I have no doubt that Bernstein would have taken its partitura with him to a better place. Masterpiece.
Nicht diese Töne..it seems to me that since then the war has spread even more. I wonder what Ludwig would say now...
She is a Queen , Please come in Brussels
I can't help but read all the comments in Andre Braugher s Voice.
Fecha Marzo 1924. Yucatan.
Lovely.
The best of music
No it was shoot space
IMPRESSIONANTE!! Stupenda Musica, gigantesco Direttore!! Una cosa sola!!! EMOZIONANTE, COMMMOVENTE, INTRIGANTE.... UNICO!!!
Is this Deutsch-Austria way of playing? This is so classy
do not forget the Bruckner Adagios! The best music in the world.
Her phrasing, counterpoint, you hear the choir and the organ in her playing. Her chords differ from a strum like a lute to long held chords that sound like an Organ.

HOLYSHIT indeed!! :-D They call it the "Katastrophenakkord", the catastrophe chord. And it is wonderful..
18 years old.
This is probably in my top five Mahler movements.
In all the years I've been watching symphony concerts, I've never seen the violas to the right of the conductor until now. it could be because they are so prominent in this work.

This was filmed in the Vienna Konzerthaus in October 1974 (the second part of the program had Mahler's First Symphony); the Bernstein/VPO series was usually done at the Singverein.
Paavo Järvi conducts, Janine Jansen plays the violin & it's the "Orchestre de Paris". Where - no idea but mentioning Paris is nice. 😁
SUBLIME.

I trust we are listening to the piece close enough to the composer’s best wishes?
After all, Mahler was dead when the world knew of this piece’s existence. Experts were left to put it together. It’s an interesting story.
It would be necessary to lock up such people as it is Hillary. Well, she is the only one. How can she play with such perfection? The answer is, that is impossible. And anyhow she plays like this. Impossibly perfectly. So one must close her.
I’ve been playing this while I work and I’m sharper, more on point, clearer, more relaxed and completely more focused! Leave my job feeling like 8 hours is three, and I’m happy! Kudos, you bringing out the best in me. I’m in quality control.
Amazing!!! No words can truly give this credit!
Magnifique ❤
Claudio Arrau. ❤️
Hilary is the best.
The nice slow tempi on the Nouvelle brings out their beauty.
Shakespeare maybe, can touch the hem of Hilary Hahn's dress without giving offense.
